Prepaid Card

A prepaid card might look like any other credit or debit card, but it is in a class by itself. Not to be confused with reloadable retailer cards or gift cards, prepaid cards are general-purpose cards that consumers recharge or "load up" and use to make purchases, withdraw cash, and receive direct deposits. Essentially, prepaid cards combine the convenience of a credit or debit card with the ability to allow the customer to set their spending limit according to their budget.

Transaction Fees

Annual Fee: Not all credit cards have an annual fee. You can expect an annual fee on most secured credit cards, some premium credit cards, charge cards, and subprime credit cards.

The amount of the annual fee varies. It can be as low as $0 or as high as $500, depending on the credit card.

Regular Purchase APR: This is the amount of interest that the issuer will add to the balance on revolving debt, known as the annual percentage rate. Please be aware that they can fluctuate; they can shift from as low as 10% to as high as 35% based on your creditworthiness. So, before signing the contract, review the credit card applications for any specifics regarding the interest rates, as they will be stated in the terms and conditions.

Intro Purchase APR: There are several low-interest credit cards offering 0% intro purchase APR. A 0% intro APR offer means that you won’t have to pay interest on your purchases for a specific time period. Depending on the credit card offer, the 0% intro APR can last anywhere from six months to over a year, then the regular purchase APR applies.

Balance Transfer Fee: A balance transfer is when you pay off the balances on existing credit cards or loans by transferring them to another credit card account. You usually will pay a fee of 3% to 5% of the amount you plan to transfer. For example, if your balance is $5,000, a 3% fee would cost you $150.

Regular Balance Transfer APR: The best balance transfer rates could be offered by credit card companies to new cardmembers, and usually are 0% or low APR offers for an introductory time period. After that -- often six months to a year or occasionally more, the interest rate will increase to its regular rate(often 10%-30%).

Cash Advance Fee: For cash advances, most companies charge a flat fee($5-$15) or percentage of the transaction(3%-5%) – whichever is greater. For example, a typical cash advance fee is the greater of $10 or 5%. So, if you take out a cash advance of $100 under these terms, your cash advance fee would be $10 since 5% of $100 is only $5. On the other hand, if you take out a cash advance of $500, your cash advance fee would be $25.

Credit Terms

TheCreditWiki, can make searching for the best card far easier, especially when you need to consider several factors. You may not be aware, but there are a few cards that have APR rates that you will need to review before signing the contract with the bank or lender. You will also need to consider financing costs, and anticipate what you are going to need the card for, is it going to be a single one-off purchase, or do you want to carry a monthly balance? Understanding the potential financial implications is crucial, for example, if you don't make your required monthly or bulk payment by the agreed date, then your financing costs will increase. If this happens, you will incur several costs – such as paying the full current balance, and fees to the credit card issuer/bank. Another important factor is interest fees. Please be aware that they can fluctuate; they can shift from as low as 0% to as high as 35%. So, before signing the contract, review the credit card applications for any specifics regarding the interest rates, as they will be stated in the terms and conditions.
